Tight Security at Eagle Square as Delegates Arrive for APC Convention

By Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

Security at the Eagle Square Abuja was tight on Saturday as delegates arrived for the All Progressives Congress national convention.

The venue within the precincts of the Federal Secretariat was cordoned off by security operatives, thus forcing people to trek about 500 metres to the Eagle Square.

Only delegates, journalists and accredited party officials were allowed into the arena.

In order to ensure water-tight security, about 10 security points were created to frisk anyone entering the convention venue.

Though the early morning downpour slowed the pace of activities at the venue, delegates from several states are currently seated.

The convention was expected to kick off by 1pm after the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari and important dignitaries. Buhari was yet to arrive at the time of filing this report.

Details later.
