The Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Friday held a prayer session for the repose of the soul of its late secretary, Alhaji Umar Santali.
Santali died a week ago following a cardiac arrest.

Top members of the party from across the 25 local councils assembled at the party secretariat for the marathon prayer session led by the Deputy Chief Imam of Minna Central Mosque, Alhaji Isa Jibrin, who was assisted by four other Muslim clerics.

Alhaji Jibrin read many verses of the Holy Quran after which he prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

The cleric said with the large assemblage of people, it was glaring that Santali “lived a life that is worthy of emulation”, adding that those still alive should always remember a day would come when they would sleep and not wake up.

A former national youth leader of the PDP, Alhaji Garba Umaru Cisar, in a brief remarks, also admonished Muslims to always remember the last day, as such they should work for humanity.

Cisar said: “We should use our position and God given resources to improve the lives of others because of a day like this,” adding that the late Santali was “a devote Muslim and God fearing person”.

The state chairman of the party, Alhaji Tanko Beji, said the PDP would continue to miss the secretarial qualities of the deceased, insisting that the vacuum created by his death would be difficult to fill.

Among those in attendance were the former minister of state for foreign affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Tanko; former deputy chief whip, House of Representatives, Alhaji Baba Shehu Agaie; former Niger State deputy governor, Dr Shem Nuhu Zagbayi; past and present leaders of the PDP in the state.
