Poly, Education College to Be Established in Sokoto, Says Wamakko

The Chairman, Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, Monday said the Federal Polytechnic, Silame and the Federal College of Education, Sabon Birni in Sokoto State may soon be established.

Wamakko disclosed this at the 16th annual general meeting of the Sokoto State Education Development Trust Fund ( SEDTF) in Sokoto.

Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, also disclosed that he had completed the construction of a 500-capacity Information, Communications and Technology ( ICT), Centre in Sokoto.

Wamakko explained that the centre would train primary school teachers on ICT, from across the state.

He stated that Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, would soon be invited to commission the centre.

The lawmaker said he is currently sponsoring no fewer than 125 undergraduate and post graduate students in Pakistan, Cotonou, Uganda, Maradi and Ghana, among others.

He also said he is sponsoring 300 students in various tertiary educational institutions within Nigeria.

He disclosed that he had established three primary schools and also maintaining them.

The schools included Bin Fodio International School for Quran and General Studies, Tsamiyar Dila and Ma’ahadut Tahfeez Wad-Dirasatil Quraniyah, Hubbare in Sokoto North Local Government, as well as, Madarasatul Tahafizil Qur’an Wa Ulumuddinil Islamiyya, Fanari in Wamakko Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, priority has been accorded to Science and Technological courses in the award of the scholarships.

While pointing out that funding of education was a collective responsibility, Wamakko added that the study of history has been reintroduced in the country, as against what obtained before their election into the eighth Senate.
