Foundation Excites Ogun School with Playground Equipment

It was excitement all the way for the pupils and teachers of Local Government Nursery and Primary School, Jaguna, Itori Ewekoro, Ogun State, as Oando Foundation, recently donated carousel and various playground equipment to the school to promote extra-curricular activities and make learning fun as part of activities to mark the 2018 Children’s Day. The school was adopted by the foundation through its ‘Adopt-A-School’ initiative, aimed at identifying and renovating dilapidated government-owned primary schools across the country. The now fully-furnished facility, which used to be a make-shift school, provides a conducive learning environment for its pupils and teachers in line with the foundation’s key principles of improving the quality of life and acting as a catalyst for development and social change.

Speaking at the programme, the Head of Oando Foundation, Mrs. Adekanla Adegoke expressed delight about its intervention in the school noting, “It is approximately one year since the foundation starts the intervention of the school and we are happy that pupils and staff of Local Government Primary School, Itori Ewekoro are witnessing a significant transformation. From learning in a derelict poultry, they now have fully equipped modern classrooms that support their needs. Adegoke regretted that, “The facility lacked the most basic infrastructure required for effective learning. It had leaking roofs, dilapidated walls, shortage of writing materials, lack of sanitary facilities, limited access to water and other basic amenities such as desks and chairs.” In line with its commitment to sustainable development, she said the foundation commenced the restoration project, from poultry pen to primary school in March 2016, with the aim of providing access to world-class basic education for both pupils and teachers. “Partnership with the US Consulate in Nigeria, Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw; Temple Productions, and other well-meaning individuals world-wide contributed significantly to this success”, Adegoke stressed.

The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Beatrice Bolanle Daodu said when she came to the school in 2015, the facility she met on ground was nothing to write home about, adding that the condition of the school now is overwhelming.
