To seek divine intervention as well as proffer solutions to the numerous problems plaguing the nation presently, the Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos Chapter has scheduled an Inter Denominational Divine Service (IDDS) for Saturday, February 17 holding at the Shepherd Hill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.
The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, his wife, Bolanle, some commissioners, administrators and other dignitaries, organisers say would be in attendance.
While addressing newsmen in Lagos during the induction of the re-elected executives, the association seized the opportunity to remind Nigerians of voting age to ensure they register to get their voters’ card for next year’s election so as to elect good leaders into government.
Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, Chairman of CAN Lagos State in his speech stated that: “I am taking this opportunity to remind every true Christian of voting age, that is 18 years and above in the state of Lagos to please go and register and obtain a voter’s card and be prepared to vote during the next round of elections in 2019), for the candidate of his or her choice.”
Bamgbola who dismissed the allegation by some individuals and group that CAN is religionising election said it is the body’s duty to educate their members on the essence of carrying out their civic duties in line with their conscience.
He however appealed to the government to make available enough registration points to enable the citizens register with ease, after the state’s Assistant Secretary of the body, Rev. Fr. Matthew Ogunyase observed the tediousness associated with the ongoing voters’ registration exercise.
Further speaking on IDDS with the theme: ‘Humility In Service’, he said that: “It is a time to give thanks to God especially for the peace and prosperity of Lagos State, our own Jerusalem. We also take time to pray for our dear nation, Nigeria. It is a great time to call upon the name of or lord God Jehovah in prayers for our political leaders in the state as commanded by God.â€
Concerning the challenges in the nation and in particular the herdsmen attacks, he assured Nigerians of God’s intervention, while urging that they (Nigerians) continue to tarry in prayers.
Meanwhile the national secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake who came in from Abuja to preside over the induction exercise encouraged Bamgbola and the other leaders to be courageous, continue in the fear of God and brotherly love in building the state through their roles in the Christian community.
“Be courageous; be not afraid for God is going to be with you as you lead the Christian community in Lagos. Continue to love one another and the devil will be put to shame,†Asake said.
Asake who further encouraged Christians in the state to be of exemplary character, urged them to be available for the IDDS. Corroborating Bamgbola and Asake, Elder Israel Akinadewo, the state secretary of CAN, said IDDS since its inception has made no little impact in the state.
Making known that no government can succeed without God’s help, he called on the political leaders to give prominence to God’s word in their day to day living and leadership style.
