Hardship Providers

RANDOM THOTS

They abound everywhere, all over the country; and their specialty is inflicting pain and suffering on fellow citizens. These peculiar individuals are found in almost every sector of the economy and the society, and those at the bottom rung of the social ladder are the worst culprits.

Pray tell this reporter why some Nigerians only thrive on the misfortune of others, and why every tempest in the teacup of governance is a chance for them to make extra money off the sweat of others. These hardship providers are very quick to blame government for any real or imagined governance woes, but they are quicker to inflict the same woes on others around them.

That is why a petrol marketer would lift fuel from a depot and head for the nearest land border for quick profit on sales rather than help ameliorate a national scarcity crisis. That is why the average petrol station attendant would gladly come to work at 4am during scarcity period so he or she can fill some personal kegs to sell off at ridiculous prices to desperate consumers, through accomplices of course.

It is for this same reason that so-called Area boys or Agberos will whisper price hikes into the ears of conniving bus drivers just to increase their cut and profit margin on stranded commuters who must get to work by all means possible.

Just like some foreign telecoms firms which previously repeatedly exploited Nigerians with their cut-throat charges while declaring handsome profits, these hardship providers are only interested in two things; blaming the government for all existing challenges and then turning around to exploit the same situation to their personal advantage. It would be foolhardy to ask such people to help make Nigeria better for all citizens….wishful thinking
