TETFUND: Strong Tertiary Education System, Backbone of Nigeria’s Economy

By Laleye Dipo in Minna

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Dr Abdullahi Baffa, has declared that a “strong tertiary education system is the backbone of any nation’s economy”.

Baffa made the observation Wednesday during an awareness visit to the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State.

Baffa, who was represented by a director of the Fund, Malam Umar Mari, said to achieve the goal “all interventions should be calculated and targeted at bringing about a solid foundation for the educational future of Nigeria”.

He said TETFUND was committed to ensuring the quality of tertiary education delivery and improving “the global competitiveness of our institutions”.

Baffa disclosed that fund allocations to tertiary institutions were aimed at making the institutions world class and also improve their global rankings, adding that these institutions should therefore collaborate with the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) to improve their standards.
