The House of Representatives wednesday passed a motion urging the service chiefs to direct all military personnel to obey traffic laws in order to ensure safe motoring.

The House, while adopting a motion by Hon. Enitan Dolapo Badru (APC, Lagos), expressed dismayed over the “contemptuous disregard of traffic laws by military personnel.”

The lawmakers said most of the time, military personnel promote aggression on the roads through blaring of sirens, chastising other motorists with horse-whips and bullying drivers, causing gridlock and commotion in the process.
It said: “The military personnel invoked in those infractions of traffic laws are usually not sanctioned as they resist cautions or arrests or even beat up traffic enforcement officers who dare to stop them.”

The motion, which is on the need to curb incessant violation of traffic laws by military personnel therefore, mandated the committee on defence to ensure that the resolution is implemented.

Also, the House passed a motion by Hon. Ayodeji Joseph on the terrible traffic situation at Apapa Wharf area of Lagos state.

He noted that the slow pace of work had caused the hindrances in the area, grinding financial services.
The legislators called on relevant agencies to expedite action aimed at correcting the unfortunate circumstance.
