APC Puts off Meeting with Governors

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the regular monthly interactive meeting with governors elected on its platform could not hold due to the short notice on the event.

The National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdulahi, who spoke to THISDAY on issue, said some of the governors were not in the country while the ones around could not make it to Abuja due to the short notice for the meeting.
However, there were indications that the absence of the governors might be linked to a brewing conflict of interest between the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the governors.

A top party member working with one of the governors pointed out some of the contentious issues to include the decisions taken by the John Oyegun-led NWC on the complaints trailing the recent conduct of state congress.
For instance, he cited cases of disagreement between some party stakeholders and governors in states like Kano, Kaduna, Kogi, Bauchi and Edo.

He cited the case of the alleged move by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to have the state executive of the party dissolved but which the NWC failed to approve.

It was gathered that the meeting was hurriedly suspended when the party leadership got wind of the fact that some of the governors might not attend due to the grievances they have against the party.
