The Centre for International and Strategic studies (CISS) has raised the alarm over alleged plot by some group of persons masquerading under civil society organisations to destabilise Nigeria through their activities.

The research authored by the Chancellor of the Centre, Prof. Shuabu Danfulani, a professor of law and Secretary General of the Centre Dr. Ifure, accused Amnesty International (AI), Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), International Society for Civil and Liberties and Rule of Law (Inter-Society) of the plot.

The Centre, through a copy of the research work, alerted the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and relevant security agencies of the alleged plot. ‎

DanFulani, while addressing journalists at the presentation of the research work said; insecurity, instability, religious fundamentalism, violence, fear, ‎poverty, abuse of democratic tenets are threats to the country’s stability.

‎According to the Centre, “in the light of the above, the CISS commissioned a research work to bring to the knowledge of the Nigerian government this destabilisation plot, its masterminds and examples of the similarities in the conceptualisation and delivery of their messages.”

“This study identified three organisations: Your Excellency, please find enclosed the research document and findings, which in our opinion would assist the relevant security agencies in the country, further understand the peculiarity of these organisations with a view to designing and implementing an appropriate counter-strategy,” it added
The centre also said the ‘winner takes it all’ political system being operated by political parties that have piloted the affairs of the country since the return of democracy in 1999 contributed immensely to the ongoing agitation, saying that for the country to have stability, instability should be addressed.

“The current political parties we have in this country have no specific political ideology ‎to differentiate one from others. All of them are seen as the same. It is an association in which various individuals come together to actualise their nefarious interest against the state. That is exactly what we are witnessing in the country today.
“If a particular party wins an election, it is expected that other parties will gang up to do everything within their reach to destabilise and make the society ungovernable to that one that emerged as winner. All this things is happening because we don’t have a political ideology that differentiate all these political groups from one another
“Another area that usually create this kind of combustible situation in our society is when you operate ‘Winner Takes All Politics’. For instance, PDP ruled the country from 1999 until 2015. You could see that PDP dominated the entire socio-political fabrics of Nigeria, in terms of total hegemony to the extent that even if you want to secure your job you need to belong to the party.

“For us to have stability, instability should be addressed‎.14th January of every year should be declared as our national day because that was the day the country was brought together, rather than May 29 or October 1,” the Centre said.
