Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Monday resigned from his position as speaker over series of allegations surrounding his leadership.

Rurum, who tendered his resignation, was unanimously accepted by the member of the state House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, a motion for new speaker was moved by member representing Dala constituency, Mr. Babangida Yakudima, whereby the name of Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata of Fagge constituency was mentioned as the new speaker.

The motion for endorsement of Ata as new speaker was seconded by Zubairu Mamuda of Madobi constituency.
However, the former Speaker Mr. Abdul’Aziz Garba Gafasa, was elected as majority leader of the assembly.

Gafasa who served as speaker during the administration of Governor Ibrahim Shekarau represents Ajingi constituency in the state.

Rurum was accused by the members of assembly for cornering N100million allegedly given to them by Kano billionaire businessman to shelve the probe of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Sources also revealed to THISDAY that the state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had met the aggrieved members of the assembly yesterday night and endorsed the Majority Leader and member representing Fagge constituency, Ata, as Rurum’s replacement.
It was observed that heavily armed security agents were around the area to prevent break down of law and order.
