The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has trained and endorsed 20 aviation safety inspectors (ASI) of the regulatory body.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the agency, Sam Adurogboye, NCAA said the Government Safety Inspectors’ (GSI) airworthiness course is to ensure that airworthiness inspectors are able to develop additional proficiency in the processes and procedures of certificating an applicant for Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) and Air Operators Certificate (AOC).

According to the statement, the course covers the five phases of the certification process and the airworthiness inspector’s role in each phase, adding that the course was held at the NCAA Training Centre (HQ Annex) from May 15 to June 2017.

“Nigeria is a signatory to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation and it is expedient for NCAA to implement the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Eight Critical Elements on safety.

“Therefore, this course is part of the cardinal efforts of the Regulatory Authority to establish, implement and sustain an effective safety oversight system in the aviation industry in Nigeria,” the statement said.
