The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police yesterday paraded 12 robbery and kidnap suspects including a 22-year-old man, Dayo Adegbohun, who confessed that he organised that his uncle be robbed in order for him to get money to buy working tools after completing his apprenticeship.
The suspects were paraded by the Commissioner for the Ondo State Command, Mrs. Hilda Ibuforo-Harrison, who said each of the suspects had explained their roles in each of the cases for which they were arrested.
Adegbohun said he organised the robbery of his uncle after he completed his apprenticeship in electrical rewinding and was not given money to buy equipment to stand on his own.
“After my apprenticeship training, my uncle instead of getting me money to buy equipment, he bought me a small handset and sent me to Okitipupa, Ondo, State.
“When I waited for some time and I heard that my uncle realised a sum of N1.4million from a land he sold, I called Alaba Anifowose to organise some people to collect N780,000 from the money.
“On the day of the operation, I went with them and showed them and how to get to my uncle’s house.
“I was told that the gang collected N750,000 from that my uncle but unfortunately, I was given only N100,000 from the entire money and out of which I gave N50,000 to Alaba Anifowose.
“I used the 50,000 to buy the equipment because I need about N30,000 to buy the complete equipment. After buying the equipment, I went my own way until I was arrested,” he said.
According to the police commissioner, Adegbohun belonged to the gang of suspected robbers, who had been terrorizing Okitipupa and environs adding that they had confessed to have killed a policeman in Okitipupa and took away his rifle.
Other members of the gang paraded by the police are Ogunyemi Sola, 26; Daisi Emetufo, 38; Anifowose Alaba while one Emetufo Ajinde 45, died from gun shut injuries when he attempted to escape.
The commissioner commended the people of the state for cooperating with the police in the quest to nip crime in the bud in the state.
Hilda-Harrison enjoined the people of the state to be vigilant on the movement of strangers in their community in view of the report of infiltration of suspected Boko Haram terrorists into some states.
She said the command had been engaging community leaders and stakeholders in dialogue on the need to report suspicious movement of strange people in their areas.
The commissioner also warned that the police would not tolerate any act that could lead to breakdown of law and order before, during and after the inauguration of the incoming administration of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu.
