Doctor Risks Jail for Defrauding Colleague of N.9m

If eventually found culpable, a 43-year-old  medical doctor, Akolawole Michael, riskes  being jailed for allegedly defrauding a colleague of a sum of nine hundred thousand for the purchase of land.

Akolawole was on  Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over the matter.
At yesterday’s proceeding, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in the months of January 2013 in Ado-Ekiti.

The cop alleged that, the senior doctor did fraudulently obtain the sum of N900,000 from one Babalola Olawale, a junior doctor with the pretence to sell six plot of land to him at Afao road in Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the accused committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of Criminal Code Cap C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The accused pleaded not guilty, while his counsel, Busuyi Ayorinde, applied for his bail, promising the court that he would not jump bail.

The prosecutor objected to the bail application because the accused had jump bail in the police station.
Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade, consequently granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in the sum of N50,000 each,  who must be resident within Ado-Ekiti with a verifiable addresses.

Ajibade said one of the sureties must be a senior medical officer,
while the other must be a civil servant of grade level 12 or executive member of landlord association.
She thereafter adjourned the case to February 15 for further hearing.
