Between Ooni of Ife and Oba Saheed Elegushi

SPY GLASS  with Bayo Adeoye ….08054680651

Both have blue blood running in their veins. But beyond this, providence has been most kind to them, having successfully ascended the thrones of their respective forebears.

But is this all that Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, share with equally influential Oba Saheed Elegushi, Kusenla of Elegushi Kingdom? Certainly, this is one of the under- reported stories about these two powerful Yoruba monarchs.

As gathered by Spyglass, the two Yoruba kings, apart from being good friends, have been business partners; they both have their hands in different sectors of the economy, ranging from real estate and oil and gas.

Spyglass also gathered that Oba Elegushi¸famously called King Gucci by his friends and admirers, played a major role in the emergence of his friend as the Ooni of Ife. Oba Elegunshi was said to have stood behind the Ooni like the proverbial rock of Gibraltar during the hot race for the exalted position.

Interestingly, the bond has been further cemented because, according to a source, the Ooni has never failed to acknowledge Elegushi’s kindness and friendly gestures.

Jide Omokore’s Antics

If you ask anyone who knows a little about the tragic-comic story of Jide Omokore, Chairman, Energy Resources Group, ERG, you will most likely be told that he has gone underground.

This should not be surprising because Omokore, an astute and visionary businessman who owns a vast business empire with substantial investments in many key sectors of the economy, reportedly ran into troubles towards the twilight of the former President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration. He, together with his partner, Kola Aluko, is alleged to have been involved in the NNPC $20 billion scam as well as oil subsidy fraud.

Consequently, many had predicted that the billionaire might face the wrath of law, following the emergence of the President Muhamadu Burhari administration that has been clamping down on all suspected individuals and government officials who are involved in the scam, in line with its anti-graft war

However, in spite of the news making the rounds that his properties and investments across the globe have been seized, Omokere’s popularity seems to be on the rise; and he seems to be enjoying unfettered freedom anywhere he goes.

Spyglass gathered that the oil baron was one of the celebrities who graced the burial ceremony of Madam Emife Jemibewon, the late mother of retired military officer, David Jemibewon, which took place at the Iya Gbede in Ijumu Local Council Area, Kogi State. He was said to have partied hard with other dignitaries, including former Skye Bank Chairman, Tunde Ayeni; Ex- Governor Segun Oni; Segun Awolowo; Tunbosun Kola Daisi; ex-Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi; Ambassador Roland Omowa; Senator Tunde Ogbeha and Professor Duro Oni, among others.

Seyi Tinubu’s Low-Key

Wedding

When Spyglass recently reported that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, would shock many with his wedding plans, it was greeted with mixed reactions. Indeed, many doubted the veracity of the report.

But true to the story, the wedding between young Tinubu and Layal Holm, which held on Monday, August 8, at the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu’s palace, was more than a shocker. First, the wedding date, which was earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 20, was deliberately moved back to
August 8.

Also, though the party was attended by big wigs in the Nigeria’s political and business circuits, those who attended were carefully selected. Apart from choice of the day, a Monday, the guests, according to information, were handpicked by the groom’s father in order to avoid unnecessarily loud celebration.

It was gathered that the select guests only received invites, via text messages, on the eve of the event. Indeed, the choice of the venue was part of the strategies to keep many away from the event that reportedly lasted about two hours.

It was attended by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Olayiwola III; Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu; Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II; Wale Tinubu and Femi Otedola, among others.

The wedding reception party was held on Tuesday, August 9, in Lake Como, Italy and was themed: “White Night’ party.

Daniyan, Awoniyi Families Settle Feud

Many days after Mrs. Monsurat Aina Daniyan, wife of the late Chief Silas Bamidele Daniyan, the Ojomu of Mopa in Kogi State, was buried at the Ikoyi Cemetery on Friday, July 22, her family, friends and loved ones still nurse a pain in their hearts.

Even in death, many still recall her life and times with her late husband, who was a Private Secretary to Nigeria’s first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and former Managing Director of the defunct Nigeria Industrial Development Bank, NIDB.

Those close to the deceased couple say that their relationship started on a very romantic note. But all that ended when a crack developed in her marriage to the former Chairman of IBWA and ex-Minister of National Planning under the late Gen. Sanni Abacha regime. Those who say many waters cannot quench love forgot to add that persistent floods of opposition can subvert it. The crack had been attributed to interference from external parties. The marriage that was blessed with two beautiful daughters (Angela and Abike) later hit the rocks due to irreconcilable differences. It was gathered that their attempts at reconciliation was short-lived.

At a grand reception held in her honour at the Lagos City Hall recently, prayers were offered for the repose of her soul. In attendance were prominent members of the Oniru family who were maternal relatives of the deceased as well as Architect Yomi Awoniyi, an ex- Kogi State deputy governor. Those in attendance were glad to see that the feud between the two prominent Kogi families (i.e. the Daniyans and the Awoniyis) had been buried.
