Uniosun Students Protest

Students of Osun State University, Osogbo on Tuesday staged a protest over what they described as management’s “no school fees, no examinations” policy.

The students had assembled at their campus gate around 7am and shut the gate against lecturers and other workers of the institution.

THISDAY gathered that some of the students were yet to pay their school fees for the session while others have paid half and yet to balance up.

Upon commencement of the Osun state government-owned university’s second semester examinations on Monday, it was gathered that some students, including those in their final year, were chased out of the examination halls and prevented to write their papers by the management.

Angered by this, the students mobilised themselves on Tuesday and boycotted their ongoing examinations demanding that the management should revert the policy of ‘no fees, no exams’.

The banner carried by the students during the peaceful demonstration read: “Student joint campus committee, Osun State University. We emphatically say no to anti-students policies. No to ‘no school fees, no exam policy’, poor students welfare and infrastructure.”

Speaking, one of the protesting students who identified himself as Michael, said the students have been paying their fees promptly blaming the present economic crunch and inability of some state governments to pay their parents’ salaries as the reason for the delay in paying their fees.
