The police in Minna, the Niger State capital yesterday confirmed the attack on a Catholic church at Baki-uku in Madella area of Suleja at the weekend.

Police spokesman,  Bala Elikana, told journalists that the force was already on the trail of the perpetrators of the crime.

Elikana said no life was lost in the attack which however led to the destruction of the windows  and musical instruments of the church.

Saying, “We will get those involved in this illegal act,” Elikana assured  residence of Suleja and the entire state that the police would continue to do its best to protect  their lives and property.

Armed policemen have been dispatched to the area to maintain law and order, he submitted, adding that peace had returned to the troubled community.

Some Muslim youths numbering over 200 fresh from observing the Friday service invaded the Catholic church during which they reportedly manhandled the security men on duty and some women praying inside the church.

The grouse of the Muslim youths was that the church was holding prayers on a Friday, a day they claimed was dedicated to Muslims to pray.

The church leadership claimed the security men and some women attacked were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment but police spokesman Elikana denied  that anyone was injured.

“They should take us to the hospital where these people were admitted,” he requested.
