The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South West Zone on Wednesday accused the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of deliberately engaging in a clampdown on leaders of the opposition party.

The accusation was contained in a communique issued at the end of the inaugural meeting of the executive of the party in the South West.

The meeting, presided over by the South-West Chairman, Dr Eddy Olafeso, and held in Akure, Ondo State, was attended by officers of the party in the zone and chairmen of state branches of the party.

In the communique read by Olafeso, the PDP accused Buhari of incarcerating opposition in prison without due process of the law.

“We therefore call for the immediate release of all our political leaders held in illegal detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)” it stated..

The zonal chapter of PDP reiterated the call for the restructuring of the country without further delay as a panacea for the continued peace, stability and progress of the country.

“The APC-led Federal Government is charged to utilise the results, reports and resolution of the 2014 National Conference that was well attended from every nook and cranny of this country.

“The Federal Government must tackle the issue of unemployment in the country, Insurgency in the North East, Avengers, herdsmen, economic crises, inflation, infrastructural decadence and suffering that have permeated every part of this country to forestall continued lack and anxiety of the masses of this country”, the party stated.
