The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Usani Uguru USANi, on Monday alleged that road projects contractors in Nigeria were fleecing the government of huge funds from inflated contracts and unprofessional practices.

He said this during his official remarks at the international training workshop organised by the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE) in Abuja.

The workshop was organised in partnership with the International Road Federation (IRF) to engender output and performance based contracting in Nigeria’s road sector.
Apart from the high projects costs, the minister also said the existence of quack engineers who bid for and take up road contracts in the country but eventually abandon them or deliver poorly done jobs was a huge challenge to road project works in the country.
