Illegal Abattoir Operators Attack, Injure Lagos Task Force Officials

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) were on Sunday attacked and injured by some illegal abattoir operators at Idi-Araba, Lawanson area of the state.

The abattoir operators, aided by some miscreants, had attacked and stabbed the task force officials with cutlasses and broken bottles, just as they damaged a Toyota Hilux bus and a Black Maria patrol van belonging to the agency.

The officials were attacked when they tried to clamp down on illegal abattoirs and slabs at Oshodi and Idi-araba respectively.

Acting on the state government’s directives to ensure better hygienic conditions at abattoirs and slabs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives through the taskforce had begun a clampdown.
