The federal government on Tuesday urged the technical committee for GITEX 2016 to widen its search beyond Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt for ICT startups that are hidden in the rural areas.
It added that two ICT startups NITDA took to last year’s GITEX are presently engaged by a software outfit in Malaysia.
The government stated this at the inauguration of the 2016 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Gulf Information Technology Expo (GITEX), scheduled for the first week of October at Dubai World Trade Centre
The annual ICT exhibition, which is reputed to be the largest gathering of the world’s leading ICT retailers and suppliers, usually attracts a diverse audience of Information Technology (IT) professionals and technology enthusiasts.
At the inauguration of the committee which is being headed by Mr. Muhammad Idris, who was represented by Mr. Femi Adeluyi, in Abuja, the Acting Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Vincent Olatunji, charged the members to work for national interest rather than personal gains.
He said: “What matter most is the nation, I hereby appeal to all of you that wherever you find yourself, discharge your duty creditably well and handle them diligently as if there will be no tomorrow because we have lost a lot ground.
