Inspite of the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Imo State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), a chieftain of the party and the current Auditor of the party for the South east zone, Chief Regis Uwakwe has mapped out plans to re-position the party in the state.
Uwakwe who stated this while declaring his intention to run for the state chairman of the party in the forthcoming congresses also stated that the party under his watch would have the potential to take the party to greater height including taking over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) that is holding forth the affairs of the state presently.
According to him, “the PDP under my watch would have the potential to take over from the APC because the APC has not shown leadership, even at the national level,” adding the APC has no focus and that is why the PDP has to stand firm and refocus to take over in 2019 from the national to Imo state.
Uwakwe told journalists that his first programme upon emergence as the state chairman of the party would be to reconcile all members of the party who had grievances, and after which he would start rebuilding process.
He said “In rebuilding the party we have to define our goals, rebrand and refocus and bring out our potentials to re-engineer the party. I intend to make use of the pioneer leaders of the party so that we can tap from their wealth of experiences, and we need to effect the zoning principle of our party”.
On his position over impunity or imposition which had rocked the party various times in the past, Uwakwe pointed that he would stamp out imposition and impunity in the system, having held various leadership positions in the party in the past, had been able to identify lapses that had contributed to the problems of the party and would work against those issues.
Uwakwe, a native of Ehime Mbano in Okigwe zone of the state, believes in discipline which the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Modu Sheriff is currently instituting among members of the party, adding “people will be held responsible to account for their actions”.
He noted that he was not running because he comes from Okigwe zone where the position of the chairman is currently zoned to, but because he is qualified and is ready to provide strong and disciplined party.
