NNPP Candidate Pledges Rural Development During Kwara Campaign Tour

The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kwara State, Prince Adetoyese Omokanye, has pledged to prioritise rural development, agricultural modernisation and infrastructure renewal if elected.

Omokanye made the pledge during a campaign visit to Tsaragi and Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area, where he met traditional rulers, religious leaders, community representatives, party members, youths and women.

He was accompanied by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr Agbo Major; the party’s Kwara State Chairman, Alhaji Lamidi Shoku; and other party officials.

The candidate said development programmes should extend beyond Ilorin and other major towns to rural communities, where many residents depend on agriculture and local economic activities for their livelihoods.

He identified agriculture as a major economic asset of the state and pledged to support farmers through mechanised farming, irrigation, improved seedlings, fertiliser and access to modern equipment.

Omokanye also expressed concern about the condition of roads, unreliable electricity supply, inadequate access to potable water and challenges facing healthcare delivery in parts of Edu Local Government Area.

He said poor road infrastructure affected the movement of people and the transportation of agricultural produce to markets, adding that rural communities required better access to essential services to improve living conditions and economic activities.

Some residents reportedly commended the candidate for visiting the communities by road despite security concerns in the area.

A community leader in Lafiagi was quoted as saying the visit had encouraged residents, adding that they were willing to support the candidate because he travelled to meet them despite the security challenges.

The campaign visit forms part of the NNPP’s grassroots mobilisation activities ahead of the Kwara governorship election.

Omokanye said his proposed development agenda would focus on rural transformation, agricultural productivity, infrastructure and improved access to social services across the state.
