Oba Unveils ‘One Rung at a Time’, Urges Youths to Embrace Leadership

Civic leader and Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Social Development, Olalekan Biliamin Oba, has launched his first book, One Rung at a Time: Echoes from the Ladder of Becoming, a leadership and personal-development publication aimed at young people.

The book, which contains 18 chapters, examines themes including leadership, mentorship, patience, discipline, resilience and personal growth. It draws on Oba’s experiences in student leadership, youth development and public service.

The launch, held in Lagos, attracted government officials, political and community leaders, civil society representatives, young professionals and students.

Speaking at the event, Oba said the book was intended to encourage young people to pursue their ambitions with patience and discipline while learning from the experiences of others.

He said leadership was a gradual process that required individuals to remain committed to personal development and create opportunities for others.

Among those who attended were former Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe; Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya; Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende; Lagos State All Progressives Congress Youth Leader, Dr Seriki Muritala; and Director-General of the iCare Foundation, Deen Sanwoola.

Olusanya unveiled the book, while Dr Joachim Adebayo Adenusi served as its lead reviewer.

In his review, Adenusi described the publication as a practical account of the author’s experiences, saying its lessons were drawn from his personal journey rather than borrowed theories.

Ogunlewe, in his goodwill message, commended Oba’s growth in leadership and encouraged young Nigerians to read the book.

Olusanya also said the publication contained lessons that could help young people develop leadership skills and build lasting institutions. Sanwoola urged young people to cultivate the habit of reading.

The event ended with the formal unveiling and a book-signing session.

The book’s foreword was written by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It is available through the author’s website, biliaminoba.org/book.
