Africa’s Digital Economy Needs More Than Innovation; It Needs Trust – Abel Edoka
Tech Forward Conference 1.0 to convene technology, business and government leaders in Lagos to examine the future of Africa’s digital economy.
As artificial intelligence, fintech, digital payments and other emerging technologies reshape Africa’s economic landscape, a fundamental question is gaining importance: how do we build digital systems that people, businesses and institutions can genuinely trust?
For Abel Edoka, Group Head of Marketing and Communications at Tranter Group, this question represents one of the defining challenges of Africa’s digital transformation.
“Innovation creates opportunity, but trust creates the confidence to participate, invest and scale. The next chapter of Africa’s digital economy will not be determined by technology adoption alone, but by the strength of the infrastructure, governance, security and partnerships supporting it,” Edoka said.
His perspective comes as Tech Forward Conference 1.0, themed Building Trust in Africa’s Digital Economy, prepares to bring together stakeholders across technology, financial services, government, investment and innovation on November 12, 2026, in Lagos.
Taking place at the Grand Ballroom, Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, the conference will examine the critical issues shaping the continent’s digital future, including artificial intelligence, fintech and payments, cybersecurity, digital identity, trusted infrastructure, regulation and digital resilience.
Edoka believes that the industry must move beyond conversations centred solely on technological possibilities.
“As digital transactions, AI-powered services and connected platforms become part of everyday life, the expectations around accountability, data protection and system reliability become greater. We must build an ecosystem where innovation is matched by responsibility and confidence,” he added.
The conference is designed to foster meaningful dialogue between technology innovators, business leaders, policymakers and institutions, with an emphasis on practical insights, strategic connections and opportunities for collaboration.
As Africa competes for a stronger position in the global digital economy, the ability to build secure, inclusive and dependable digital infrastructure will be central to sustainable growth.
Tech Forward 1.0 seeks to advance this conversation and bring together the people and institutions capable of shaping that future.
