PTAD Clears ₦3.82bn Backend Computation Arrears for 30,356 Pensioners

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) said it has disbursed ₦3.82 billion in accrued pension arrears to 30,356 pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to clear outstanding retirement obligations.

The payment, totalling ₦3,817,568,592.80, followed the conclusion of a Back-End Computation (BEC) Review Exercise conducted by PTAD to address complaints arising from pension computations and unpaid entitlements.

Executive Secretary/Chief Executive of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, commended the affected pensioners for their cooperation during the review process, stressing that the directorate remained committed to ensuring that verified pension obligations were settled in a timely and transparent manner.

In a statement issued by PTAD Head, Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, Odunaiya said the latest payment reflected the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to resolving pension-related challenges and strengthening the administration of the Defined Benefit Scheme.

The beneficiaries cut across three departments of the Directorate: the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD), Defunct and Transferred Agencies Pension Department (DTAPD), and Tertiary, Education and Health Pension Department (TEHPD).

The disbursement targets arrears identified through a review of pension records, computations and complaints submitted by affected DBS retirees.

Rather than representing a routine monthly pension payment, the exercise was designed to reconcile outstanding obligations arising from previous pension computations and resolve cases where beneficiaries claimed they had not received their full entitlements.

PTAD said the payment formed part of its continuing efforts to verify and settle outstanding liabilities owed to pensioners under the old pension arrangement.

The directorate said it would continue to engage DBS pensioners, review complaints and resolve verified cases as part of efforts to improve pension administration.

The latest disbursement therefore adds 30,356 beneficiaries to the growing number of retirees whose outstanding claims have been subjected to PTAD’s verification and settlement process.

PTAD said its focus remained on ensuring that only verified entitlements were paid, while improving accountability and transparency in the management of pension obligations.

The directorate also reiterated its commitment to prompt resolution of pension complaints and more efficient administration of the DBS, amid persistent concerns over delays and unpaid retirement benefits.
