Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 Eyes Global Stage with Sustainability Focus
Arrangements have reached an advanced stage for Nigeria Fashion Week 2026, one of Africa’s leading fashion and creative industry events, as organisers intensify efforts to position Nigeria as the continent’s foremost fashion and creative economy hub.
The three-day event, scheduled to hold from October 2 to 4, 2026, in Abuja, is expected to attract fashion designers, buyers, retailers, investors, manufacturers, diplomats, policymakers, development partners, media professionals and creative entrepreneurs from Nigeria and across the globe.
Organisers said this year’s edition, themed “Beyond the Runway: Fashion and Culture at the Heart of the Green and Blue Economy (Going Green 5),” will highlight the growing role of fashion in promoting sustainable development, environmental responsibility, innovation, job creation and economic growth.
Speaking ahead of the event, President of Nigeria Fashion Week, Lexy Mojo-Eyes, described the platform as more than a fashion showcase, noting that it has evolved into a strategic business and investment forum that connects creativity with commerce while opening international opportunities for African designers.
According to him, Nigeria Fashion Week is committed to promoting Made-in-Nigeria fashion, strengthening local manufacturing, preserving the nation’s rich cultural heritage and creating employment opportunities, particularly for women and young people.
“Nigeria Fashion Week is no longer just about beautiful clothes and spectacular runway shows. It is about creating jobs, opening international markets, promoting sustainability, preserving our cultural heritage, empowering women and youth, strengthening local manufacturing, and positioning Nigeria as Africa’s fashion capital,” he said.
Mojo-Eyes disclosed that one of the major milestones for this year’s edition is a strategic collaboration with New York-based Bizness Group, aimed at creating access for Nigerian designers to Walmart’s global retail ecosystem.
He explained that the partnership is expected to move African fashion beyond creative expression into international commercial success by connecting local brands with global supply chains and retail markets.
“Our vision is to ensure that Nigerian designers are not only celebrated on the runway but also stocked on shelves, featured on global platforms and recognised as world-class brands,” he added.
The 2026 edition will feature six major runway showcases where leading Nigerian and international designers will unveil collections reflecting African creativity, modern craftsmanship, innovation and environmentally sustainable fashion practices.
Beyond the runway, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a large-scale fashion exhibition featuring textiles, garments, footwear, accessories, beauty products, manufacturing technologies and fashion-related services.
The exhibition is expected to provide direct interaction between producers, buyers, distributors, retailers, investors and consumers.
Another major attraction of the event will be the Nigeria Fashion Awards, where individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the country’s fashion and creative industries will be recognised for their achievements.
Environmental sustainability will remain one of the defining features of the event through the flagship Going Green Collection, a signature showcase dedicated exclusively to designers producing garments with recycled, upcycled and eco-friendly materials.
The organisers will also stage the Trees for Nigeria Campaign, bringing together designers, government officials, diplomats, celebrities, students, development partners and international delegates to plant trees in support of climate action and environmental conservation.
According to the organisers, the initiative reinforces the importance of responsible fashion production, circular economy principles and sustainable manufacturing while encouraging environmentally conscious consumption across the industry.
With its blend of fashion, business, innovation and sustainability, Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s standing as Africa’s leading fashion destination, while creating new opportunities for designers, manufacturers and creative entrepreneurs to compete successfully on the global stage.
