The District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Olayioye Abidoye, has pledged to deepen the organisation’s humanitarian interventions by expanding investments in healthcare, education, youth development and emergency response across communities within the district during the 2026–2027 Rotary year.

Speaking during his inauguration as the third District Governor of Rotary International District 9112 in Lagos, recently, Abidoye called on Rotarians, partners and philanthropists to support the organisation’s life-changing projects, stressing that collective generosity remains the cornerstone of Rotary’s mission of service above self.

Expressing gratitude to God, his family and members of Rotary for their support throughout his leadership journey, Abidoye said he was humbled by the confidence reposed in him and committed to building on the district’s humanitarian achievements.

“I am honestly overwhelmed. Looking across this hall, I am reminded of how incredibly fortunate I am to be standing here. My gratitude goes to God Almighty for making me worthy of this responsibility and to my family for supporting my commitment to Rotary,” he said.

He urged members to emulate the spirit of generosity that has sustained Rotary’s service projects over the years by contributing their resources towards initiatives that directly improve the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

According to him, priority projects under his administration include the Rotary District 9112 Eye Hospital, support for Agboyi-Ketu and Imota General Hospitals, renovation of sanitation facilities at SEA School, Apapa, donation of five ultrasound machines to Mother and Child hospitals, strengthening fire preparedness and emergency response systems, football competitions aimed at engaging youths across three local government areas in Lagos, as well as the establishment of e-learning facilities and teacher training programmes in five secondary schools.

Abidoye said these initiatives reflect Rotary’s enduring commitment to addressing pressing community needs through sustainable interventions in health, education and youth empowerment.

His emergence as District Governor marks the culmination of over two decades of active Rotary service. Since joining the Rotary Club of Gbagada during the 2001–2002 Rotary year, he has held several leadership positions and participated in advanced leadership development programmes, including the Rotary International Assembly in Orlando, Florida, United States.

The colourful ceremony, attended by Rotarians, business leaders, professionals and guests from across the country, also celebrated Rotary’s enduring tradition of fellowship and service. Renowned Fuji musician Adewale Ayuba entertained guests, adding excitement to an evening that combined leadership, philanthropy and celebration.

As he begins his tenure, Abidoye’s message was clear: Rotary’s greatest legacy will not be measured by ceremonies or titles, but by the lives transformed through sustained investment in healthcare, education and community development.
