Tolu Olisa Leads Delta State’s Digital Communication Drive

Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has strengthened the state’s digital communication framework with the appointment of Toluwalope Olisa as Special Assistant on New Media, a role that places him at the forefront of the government’s public engagement and digital communication efforts.

Olisa, a legal practitioner and political strategist, brings years of experience in law and public affairs to the position. A graduate of the University of Ilorin, he has spent the last decade practicing law while actively engaging in political communication and public policy advocacy.

As Special Assistant on New Media, Olisa is responsible for coordinating the state’s digital communication strategy, managing online public relations, and enhancing citizen engagement through digital platforms.

His role includes communicating government policies, programmes, legislative initiatives, and executive actions in a manner that is accessible and understandable to residents across the state.

Speaking on the importance of effective digital communication in governance, stakeholders say the increasing use of technology has made it necessary for governments to engage citizens more directly and transparently.

Since assuming office, Olisa has focused on leveraging digital platforms to bridge the information gap between government institutions and the public, ensuring that residents have access to timely information on government activities and development initiatives.

His legal background is also seen as an asset in communicating policy matters, allowing complex legislative and governance issues to be presented in clear and simplified formats for public consumption.

Observers note that the growing importance of digital governance has elevated the role of communication professionals within government, particularly as citizens increasingly rely on social media and digital platforms for information and engagement.

Under Governor Oborevwori’s administration, Delta State has continued efforts to expand public participation in governance, with digital communication playing a key role in that strategy.

Analysts say Olisa’s combination of legal expertise and communication experience positions him to contribute significantly to the state’s objective of fostering greater transparency, accountability, and public awareness through technology-driven engagement.

As governments across Nigeria continue to embrace digital transformation, Delta State’s investment in strengthening its new media operations reflects the increasing role of digital communication in shaping public discourse and citizen-government relations.
