FeemYard Launches Campus Cinema Distribution Network to Transform African Film Exhibition

African film distribution and streaming company FeemYard has officially launched its Campus Cinema Distribution Network, marking a significant milestone after engaging more than 50,000 students across Nigerian universities over the past six years.

The announcement was made during the star-studded premiere of WhackAmole at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, signaling the company’s transition from organizing campus film screenings to building what it describes as a nationwide distribution ecosystem for African cinema.

Reflecting on the company’s journey, a FeemYard representative said its growth was built on years of grassroots engagement with university audiences.

“Who could have thought we’d be digital in 2026? We started with physical film screenings at Delta State University, Abraka. Hauling projectors, organising comedy shows, outdoor parties, live events, forging campus alliances, and immersing ourselves in how young audiences engage with entertainment taught us lessons no boardroom could provide. Today, that foundation has become scalable infrastructure.”

The company explained that the Campus Cinema Distribution Network is designed to offer independent filmmakers an alternative to the traditional cinema distribution model, where films often compete for limited screen time before disappearing from theatres.

According to FeemYard, its new model combines physical campus screenings with digital distribution through its Virtual CineVerse platform, allowing films to continue generating audiences and revenue after their theatrical exhibition.

“The physical-to-digital pipeline addresses one of the industry’s biggest challenges by giving creators sustained visibility and monetisation opportunities long after their initial release,” the company stated.

The distribution network launches alongside two original productions.

The first, Night of the 29th, is a period drama-thriller set in the early 2000s that explores themes of love, division, identity and forgiveness. The film is scheduled for a nationwide university tour before its exclusive release on FeemYard’s Virtual CineVerse later this year.

The second, WhackAmole, is a crime thriller featuring Daniel Etim Effiong, Zack Orji and Olarotimi Fakunle. Designed as the foundation of a broader cinematic universe, the film follows its recent Abuja premiere and is being positioned for international rollout in 2027.

Beyond exhibition, FeemYard also introduced FeemForge, its creative development platform dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging African screenwriters and original intellectual properties.

Through FeemForge, selected projects will receive development support, marketing opportunities, campus exhibition slots and access to the company’s streaming infrastructure, creating what the company describes as a complete end-to-end pipeline for African storytelling.

Industry observers believe the company’s integrated approach could help address longstanding distribution challenges facing independent filmmakers by strengthening audience development and expanding access beyond conventional cinema chains.

Having spent more than six years cultivating university audiences, FeemYard said it is now focused on scaling that experience into a national platform capable of connecting authentic African stories with culturally engaged viewers.

Filmmakers with original projects have been invited to submit their works through the FeemForge programme as the Campus Cinema Distribution Network officially begins operations nationwide.

FeemYard is an African film distribution, exhibition and streaming company building an integrated ecosystem that spans story development through FeemForge, campus theatrical distribution and digital streaming via its Virtual CineVerse platform.
