Over 1,000 APC Faithful Storm Okpurughre CompoundDrum Support for Ogheneovo’s 2027 Bid
More than one thousand members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, defied short notice on Friday to gather at the Okpurughre family compound in Oghareki, Ethiope West LGA, where they declared total backing for Okpurughre Ogheneovo’s aspiration to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly election for Ethiope West Constituency 2.
The rally, convened at brief notice, drew a heavy turnout of women and youth who filled the compound grounds with chants and banners endorsing Ogheneovo’s candidacy.
Speaking for the crowd, women and youth leaders said Ogheneovo is the “best qualified” aspirant for the ticket.
They cited her track record, grassroots connection, and ability to mobilize votes as key reasons for their endorsement.
The declaration was unanimous, with supporters vowing to stand with her through the party primaries.
In her address, Okpurughre Ogheneovo thanked the faithful for turning out despite the short notice.
She said she has the capacity to represent the constituency effectively and bring development to Ethiope West Constituency 2.
“Besides being the only woman in the race, I know I’m very qualified and I tick all the right boxes. I have the capacity, I have the grassroots support, and I understand the needs of our people,” she told the crowd.
Ogheneovo pledged loyalty to the APC regardless of the primary outcome, but expressed confidence that her candidacy would strengthen the party’s chances.
“No matter the outcome, I and my teeming supporters won’t leave the party. But I’m certain I’d boost the party’s chances at the polls,” she said.
APC chieftain and stakeholder, Idi Presley, also addressed the gathering.
He described Ogheneovo’s aspiration as “in order” and said she is a “round peg in a round hole” for the constituency seat.
According to Presley, the party would be making a strategic move by giving her the flag.
“Should the party give her the flag, she’d win the election before 12 noon,” he declared, drawing loud cheers from supporters.
