Herbal Drink Jigsimur Rebrands as Cleansimur Amid Crackdown on Counterfeits in Nigeria

The widely known herbal wellness drink Jigsimur has been reintroduced to the Nigerian market under a new name, Cleansimur, following years of widespread counterfeiting that undermined consumer trust and product credibility.

The South African manufacturer behind the original formula announced the rebrand as part of a broader strategy to combat the proliferation of fake versions that had saturated the market. Industry observers say the move marks a decisive step to reclaim product integrity and restore consumer confidence.

Rising Counterfeiting Concerns

According to sources familiar with the development, counterfeit Jigsimur products had become increasingly difficult to distinguish from the authentic version, leaving many consumers unknowingly exposed to imitations.

The company noted that the scale of duplication not only affected sales but also raised serious concerns about quality assurance and public health.

“Many unsuspecting customers purchased products that did not reflect the original formulation or standards,” the company said in a statement.

Rather than relying solely on enforcement measures, the manufacturer opted for a full rebrand to create a more secure and distinct product identity.

Same Formula, New Identity

Now distributed in Nigeria by Cleansimur International Ltd, the product retains its original herbal formulation, with the company emphasizing that only the name and protective branding have changed.

Cleansimur continues to be marketed for its perceived health benefits, including immune support, blood sugar regulation, joint health, and general body detoxification.

Nationwide Distribution Begins

The product is currently available through authorised distributors in major cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Enugu, Owerri, and parts of Ogun State. Consumers are advised to purchase only from verified outlets to avoid counterfeit products.

With the introduction of Cleansimur, the manufacturer aims to rebuild trust in a market that had become increasingly wary due to fake products.

Market watchers say the success of the rebrand will depend largely on consumer acceptance and the company’s ability to maintain strict distribution controls.

Early indications from distributors suggest a positive reception, signaling a possible fresh start for a product that once enjoyed strong loyalty among Nigerian consumers.
