A civil society group, the Niger Delta Advocate for Good Governance, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Initiative, has called on the Federal Government to engage key stakeholders in the Niger Delta to help maintain peace and stability in the region.

In a statement after a meeting in Abuja, the group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to encourage dialogue among stakeholders, especially on issues relating to pipeline surveillance operations.

According to the group, involving respected leaders and peace advocates who contributed to the success of the Presidential Amnesty Programme would help strengthen ongoing peace efforts in the region.

The group also suggested that experienced stakeholders and community leaders be consulted and included in discussions aimed at resolving emerging concerns.

It further recommended the creation of a platform for dialogue where all relevant parties can share views and work together toward lasting peace.

While noting recent public discussions around pipeline surveillance activities, the group advised that such issues be addressed through constructive engagement and proper communication.

The group also urged community leaders and stakeholders to promote unity and avoid statements that could increase tension.

It commended the efforts of pipeline surveillance operators for their contributions to stability and encouraged continued cooperation between companies and host communities.

Overall, the group emphasized the importance of dialogue, collaboration, and responsible leadership in sustaining peace and supporting development in the Niger Delta.
