Anticipation is building in Ohaji as Ohoba Central School prepares to host its much-awaited 2026 annual inter-house sports competition on April 2, promising a vibrant display of talent, unity, and youthful energy.

The event, scheduled to take place within the school premises, is already generating excitement among students, teachers, and members of the community.

The 2026 edition of the inter-house sports will not only showcase athletic prowess but also reinforce the values of unity, discipline, and community spirit among the students.

In a show of generosity and enduring commitment to education, and particularly Ohoba Central School, the family of late Donatus Chima Eleko has once again stepped forward as sponsors, providing sports vests to all participating students.
The colourful kits—representing the Green, Yellow, Blue, and Red houses—were distributed last Friday, transforming the school atmosphere into one of pride and healthy rivalry.

Beyond the kits, the sponsors also donated three trophies to reward excellence, with prizes set aside for the houses that emerge first, second, and third. Organisers say details of the prize money will be unveiled on the day of the competition, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Speaking ahead of the sports day, the Project Coordinator, Mr. Chuks Njoku, called on students to fully embrace the opportunity, stressing that inter-house sports go far beyond competition.

According to him: “Inter-house sports remain one of the most powerful tools for nurturing well-rounded students. Beyond the races and games, it teaches discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These are qualities that young people will carry with them for life. It provides a platform for students to discover hidden talents, build confidence, and develop leadership skills in a natural and engaging way.

“In a time when many young people are distracted by less productive pursuits, events like this help to channel their energy into something meaningful and rewarding. It also strengthens unity among students, as they learn to collaborate, support one another, and celebrate collective achievements rather than just individual success.

“Importantly, sports contribute to physical and mental well-being. Regular participation helps students stay fit, reduces stress, and improves concentration in the classroom. For many, this could even be the beginning of a future career in athletics or related fields. That is why we encourage every student to participate actively and give their best.”

Also expressing her excitement, the Headmistress, Mrs. Esther Ejike, described the continued support from the sponsoring family as both inspiring and deeply appreciated.

“I am truly delighted and grateful to the family of late Donatus Chima Eleko for remembering us and consistently standing by Ohoba Central School over the years,” she said. “Their generosity has not only made this event possible but has also lifted the morale of both students and staff.

“This kind of support sends a strong message to our children—that their dreams are valid and that their community believes in them. It motivates them to strive for excellence, not just in sports but in their academics and character as well.
“We pray that the family will continue to prosper and never lack, and that joy and fulfilment will always remain in their household. As a school, we are committed to making this year’s inter-house sports one of the best we have ever hosted.”
