The Chairman of Egbe–Idimu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Dr. Prince Idris Balogun, has intensified efforts to improve environmental sanitation across the council area through a comprehensive clean-up initiative aimed at promoting public health and restoring cleanliness in the community.
Balogun, who is leading the campaign alongside the Vice Chairman, Hon. Omotayo Ayinde, recently deployed the council’s newly acquired waste compactor to strengthen refuse evacuation operations across major streets and strategic locations within the LCDA.
The compactor, procured under the leadership of the chairman, popularly known as Oluomo Kafata, has since commenced full operations, clearing accumulated refuse from several parts of the council area. The sanitation exercise forms part of the administration’s broader environmental management strategy designed to create a cleaner and more organised living environment for residents.
Council officials said the sanitation team has already covered several key locations previously affected by indiscriminate dumping of waste, removing heaps of refuse and restoring order to affected neighbourhoods.
Speaking on the initiative, Balogun reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a healthy and hygienic environment across Egbe–Idimu.
According to him, environmental sanitation remains a critical pillar of his administration’s development agenda, stressing that a clean environment is fundamental to the well-being of residents.
“A clean environment is essential for healthy living. Our administration is committed to ensuring that Egbe–Idimu LCDA remains clean, safe and conducive for all residents,” the chairman said.
He explained that the deployment of the waste compactor was a deliberate step taken by his administration to strengthen waste management capacity and improve sanitation services across the council area.
Balogun further noted that beyond the immediate evacuation of refuse, the initiative reflects the council’s long-term vision of building a sustainable culture of environmental responsibility among residents.
“We are not just evacuating refuse; we are building a culture of environmental responsibility. Our goal is to ensure that every street, every neighbourhood and every public space within Egbe–Idimu reflects the standards of a modern and well-managed community,” he added.
The sanitation campaign has also received strong institutional backing from key officials within the council administration.
The Vice Chairman, Hon. Omotayo Ayinde, has been actively supporting the initiative, while the Chief of Staff, Hon. Lukmon Idowu, and the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Semiu, have been involved in coordinating the clean-up operations to ensure their effectiveness across the LCDA.
In addition, the legislative arm of the council has thrown its weight behind the sanitation drive. The Leader of the House, Hon. Anike Hassan, alongside other councillors, has expressed support for the initiative, noting that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility between government and residents.
Council officials said the continued collaboration between the executive and legislative arms has been instrumental in driving the sanitation programme and ensuring its sustainability.
Meanwhile, residents of the LCDA have been urged to complement the council’s efforts by adopting proper waste disposal habits and cooperating with sanitation authorities.
The council leadership emphasised that indiscriminate dumping of refuse undermines environmental sanitation efforts and poses serious health risks to communities.
Officials also reiterated the administration’s determination to sustain the clean-up campaign as part of ongoing efforts to create a healthier and more liveable environment for residents of Egbe–Idimu LCDA.
The environmental sanitation initiative, according to the council, will continue to cover additional streets and neighbourhoods in the coming weeks as the administration intensifies its drive to maintain a cleaner and more organised council area.
