“We stand at a defining moment for our democracy. The judiciary, as the custodian of justice, carries the weight of ensuring fairness, impartiality, and the preservation of national stability. Whatever the decision may be, the PDP reaffirms its respect for the judicial process and its commitment to peace.
“The PDP has always been a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democratic journey. Our party has governed, opposed, and contributed to the strengthening of institutions that protect the rights of citizens. We urge our members, supporters, and indeed all Nigerians to remain calm and disciplined in their reactions to the ruling.
“Our collective response must reflect maturity and a deep respect for the rule of law. We call on all party members and leaders to show maximum restraint, calm and be law-abiding before, during and after the judgment as leadership will meet immediately to review the judgment and chart the necessary post- judgment line of action.
“Democracy thrives on diversity of voices, competition of ideas, and the ability of citizens to choose from credible alternatives. The PDP will continue to embody these values.
“We, therefore, call on all members with political aspirations to contest the 2027 general elections to have faith in the party’s ability to provide the party’s platform that will ensure their electoral victories; notwithstanding the fact that INEC has already published the timetable for the general elections, the party will ensure the protection and realization of their political ambitions.
“Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, the PDP remains resolute in its mission to provide Nigerians with a strong, credible, and people-centered alternative. No ruling can erase the will of Nigerians for a fair and competitive political system. We are prepared to participate fully in the democratic process, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and respected.
“The judiciary has always remained the only impartial and people-oriented arm of government whose tireless defense of the constitution has ensured the stability of our democratic governance.”
Meanwhile, the Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Abba Patrick Moro, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP, declaring that he would remain in the party despite political pressures and shifting alliances.
Moro made the declaration during a massive defection ceremony held at the Upu Open Field in Ewulo, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, where members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP) and other political parties defected to the PDP.
“I told you from the beginning that I will not leave PDP and I will be here till tomorrow,” the senator said while addressing the large crowd that gathered at the event.
Earlier, APC stakeholders from Ohimini Local Government Area, led by Adaji Elijah, paid a courtesy visit to the senator and expressed their readiness to work for his victory in 2027.
Elijah said many of them had lost confidence in the ruling APC, accusing the party of failing to adequately protect lives and property. He also pointed to internal divisions within the APC in Benue State as one of the reasons for their decision to join the PDP.
According to him, the party in the state had become factionalised, noting that their group aligns with the camp of former governor George Akume with Austin Agada recognised as the state chairman.
