Group Applauds Akpe’s Appointment as Deputy Governor, Commends Diri’s Decision

A grassroots advocacy group, POLIVOX, has applauded the appointment and subsequent confirmation of Dr. Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, describing Governor Douye Diri’s decision as a step in the right direction.

The group described the appointment as “a significant marker of political consolidation within Governor Douye Diri’s administration, signaling both continuity and strategic alignment.

“Dr. Akpe’s immediate past role as Chief of Staff to the Governor and his extensive experience as a two-time lawmaker and Majority Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly suggest a deep familiarity with state operations that will undoubtedly ease governance transitions and ensure seamless coordination between the executive and legislative arms of government.

“The swift and unanimous confirmation of Dr. Akpe by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly underscores strong party support and remarkable institutional cohesion. This is a clear demonstration of the political maturity that now defines the state’s governance architecture.”

Meanwhile, the group commended Governor Douye Diri’s demonstration of wisdom and foresight “in retaining the deputy governorship position within Sagbama Constituency I, Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

“This decision ensures that the people of the constituency, who lost their representative in the late Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, are not robbed of their political privilege nor the delicate balance of representation within the state altered.”

The group also hailed the Governor by saying he respected the zoning arrangement, as he “affirmed the principles of equity, rotational justice and inclusive governance upon which the unity of our region rests.

“This is statesmanship of the highest order, and we applaud His Excellency for prioritizing the collective interest of the Bayelsa West people over the pressure of narrow political expediency.”

Meanwhile, POLIVOX therefore called on all stakeholders, particularly “the people of Tarakiri Clan, the entire Bayelsa West Senatorial District and Sagbama Constituency I, to rally behind the administration of Governor Douye Diri and the newly appointed Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe.

“This is the time for consolidation, for closing ranks, and for channelling our collective energies toward supporting a government that has demonstrated commitment to our shared prosperity.

“We urge the good people of Bayelsa State to extend to Dr. Akpe the same support and cooperation accorded to his predecessor, as he assumes this onerous responsibility of assisting Governor Diri in piloting the affairs of our dear state.”
