As part of preparations for the landmark WIME@5 celebration scheduled for March in commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026), under the theme “Give to Gain,” the Board of Trustees of Women in Maritime and Energy (WIME) Awards, led by its Chairperson Dr. Chizoba Anyika, paid a strategic courtesy visit to LOYZ Marine.
The delegation was warmly received by the CEO of LOYZ Marine, Mrs. Bassey Alorye Addie Oronsaye, in a meeting that evolved into a powerful conversation on resilience, courage, and practical pathways for women to deepen their footprint within the maritime industry particularly in vessel acquisition and ownership.
Aligned with the 2026 IWD theme, Give to Gain, discussions emphasized that when institutions intentionally give access, mentorship, capital pathways, and leadership opportunities to women, the industry gains innovation, sustainability, and long-term value.
Speaking during the visit, the CEO of LOYZ Marine, Mrs. Bassey Alorye Adie Oronsaye, stated:
“Resilience and courage are non-negotiable for women who intend to thrive in the maritime industry. The sector is capital-intensive and historically male-dominated, but it is not inaccessible. With the right knowledge, strategic partnerships, and financial structures, women can penetrate the system, acquire vessels, and build sustainable shipping businesses. We must move from being service providers alone to becoming asset owners.”
She further emphasized mentorship, industry collaboration, and access to maritime financing as critical enablers for women aspiring to own and operate vessels within the blue economy.
In her remarks, Dr. Chizoba Anyika reaffirmed WIME’s commitment to translating the Give to Gain philosophy into measurable industry impact:
“The maritime sector stands to gain immensely when we intentionally give women the tools, trust, and capital access to lead and own. ‘Give to Gain’ is not just a theme, it is a strategy for industry transformation.
WIME@5 will spotlight partnerships that move women from participation to ownership and from visibility to influence.”
The visit underscores WIME’s strategic focus on empowering women across the maritime and energy value chain, from operations and technical expertise to executive leadership and asset acquisition.
As WIME marks five years of impact, WIME@5 will celebrate resilience, leadership, and transformative action, reinforcing the message that when women are empowered with opportunity and access, the future of the blue economy becomes stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable.
