Late Chief Imam of Ilorin Laid to Rest

Amid tears, the remains of the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Solih, were yesterday, laid to rest after an Islamic rites at the Emir of Ilorin’s palace in Ilorin.
He was buried at his Islamic center located at Egbejila axis of Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
The event was witnessed by thousands of Muslims and other residents of Ilorin that trooped out to the emir’s palace, Ilorin to be part of the final rites for the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammed Basiru Solih.
Among those that attended the special prayers included the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari among other prominent sons and daughters of the Emirate attended the burial rites.
Imam Solihu died in a Abuja hospital at the age of 75,having served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin for over four decades.
He was generally acclaimed for his wisdom, intelligence, and dedication to promoting interfaith harmony and tolerance.
Imam Solih was appointed the Chief Imam in 1983 and has been a beacon of peace and unity in the Ilorin Emirate that consists of Ilorin South, Ilorin East, Ilorin West, Asa, and Mooro local governments.
The vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described his death as a great loss not only to the University’s host community but also to humanity at large.
Prof. Egbewole, in a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said the management, staff and students of the University received the news of the death of the prominent cleric with great shock.
Also, the vice chancellor of the state University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the deceased as a great loss to the entire Muslim community.
The scholar said the late Imam led the Council of Ulamah in the state with integrity, adding that, “Imam Solih was a very respected Islamic cleric who devoted his life to Islamic learning and committed service to his community.”
