Nugi Technologies, a customer-centric ICT solutions pioneer, marked its 10th anniversary with an event on January 10, 2025, at the Calabar International Convention Centre. The event also marked the 40th birthday of the company’s founder, Ugi Augustine Ugi and the launch of his memoir, The Blood of the Phoenix: A Memoir of Sickle Cell, Faith and Service.
Themed The Builder’s Odyssey, the event brought together government officials, industry leaders, academics, partners, staff, and well-wishers in a way that reflects the company’s growing influence in Nigeria’s technology landscape.
Representatives from the Cross River State government were Associate Prof. Justin Atiang Beshel, pioneer Commissioner for Science and Technology, and Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Secretary to the State Government. Other attendees were Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff, Prof. Francisca Bassey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, and Sir Gabe Onah, Chairman of the Calabar Carnival Commission.
In her opening address, Chief Executive Officer Ajoke Akinlabi highlighted the company’s journey of resilience, innovation, and impact. “Today, we celebrate not just a decade, but a vision that has shaped digital transformation here and beyond,” she said.
She noted that although Ugi Augustine Ugi could not attend due to health reasons, his vision continues to guide the company’s culture, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Ishubel Ugi, alongside other family members, represented him.
A documentary screened during the event traced Nugi Technologies’ evolution from a small team in Calabar to a regional player with offices in Lagos, Abuja, and the United Kingdom. Co-founder Sunday Okoi, reflecting on the company’s emphasis on building solutions that improve efficiency in both the public and private sectors, cited innovations such as 360Gov, Qloop, Syncventory, Ultimeplus, Servyx, and Cloudbridge as examples of products that have reshaped governance, finance, and operational workflows.
Over its 10-year history, Nugi Technologies has played a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, with solutions that enhance efficiency, transparency, and service delivery. One notable product is 360Gov, which has helped state and local governments streamline operations and enhance service delivery for citizens. The platform has been credited with bettering workflows in multiple public-sector institutions.
Cross River State governor Bassey Otu, represented by Commissioner Beshel, unveiled Ugi’s memoir, which recounts his personal journey with sickle cell, offering insights into how resilience, faith, and service have guided his life and professional decisions. Ambassador Gabe Onah then led a discussion on how the memoir’s themes of perseverance and purpose mirror the ethos of Nugi Technologies’ work.
The event also recognised staff and partners who have contributed to the company’s growth. Victory Bassey, Business Development Manager, received the Nugi Trailblazer Award, along with a ₦5 million prize, for outstanding performance and innovation. Additional awards recognised leadership, dedication, and impact across management and junior staff, reflecting the company’s commitment to cultivating talent and rewarding excellence.
With a decade of achievements, Nugi Technologies continues to expand its influence, demonstrating how consistent innovation, strategic leadership, and commitment to social impact can shape the future of Nigeria’s technology sector.
