Following the widespread unexpected success of B.O.Y Music artiste Ofego new album 1 Man MP. New Ofego Fans across the World, most especially fans in Europe have been sending mails requesting to know what is the meaning Ofego?
Ofego which is the short form of our artiste name Oghenefegor means God deserves to be worship. And it’s an Isoko name given to him by his Mum.
Ofego who discovered wide varieties of music through listening to different genres of sounds collated by his Dad in the late 90s started creating fresh sounds without beats in the early 2000s.
Over the years, he strived to find a sound that actually suits his style of music.
Still looking for a style that actually suits, he delved into comedy in early 2010 to make ends meet and was an ardent writer of Nigerian jokes online before going back to music in 2017 after discovering Banku Music pioneered by Mr Eazi, he realized that was what he has been creating over the years but never knew what it was.
Few mid singles here and there and still doing comedy Ofego retired and went professional in music in 2021. He released numerous singles from March 2021 and had two hit songs “Girlo” in August “When” in October same year which became an International success.
He got signed to B.O.Y Music in February 2022 and released his first EP Rhythm Of Banku and a follow up EP in July before the album “Bankumentation” in November 2022.
Ofego who has created songs for other artistes Worldwide started with creating choruses without beats but struggled with verses but in 2021 before his first professional single “Mama Ko Oh” which was a freestyle, Ofego said before then he use to pray to God to give him the ability to create songs without stress and that started manifesting in March 2021 when he freestyled on the beat he received and that freestyle became Mama Ko Oh.
Up till this day a lot of Ofego’s songs are freestyles, most especially Oblongata which has no verses and the lead track off his 2024 award winning album Banku Bounce which became a Worldwide anthem and charted as the World’s number one Afrobeats song on Shazam in February 2025. In Ofego’s words, if the beat sits well with my mind, I like it, I must freestyle something on it.” I won’t pass it by.
