Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has called on residents of the state to approach the year 2026 with renewed hope, optimism, and a commitment to actions that promoted peace, unity, and sustainable development.

Speaking yesterday during a worship service at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church in Jos, the governor expressed deep gratitude to God for what he described as the divine protection and preservation of the state despite the challenges experienced in recent years.

Mutfwang said the new year offered an opportunity for collective reflection and decisive action, stressing that his administration remained committed to correcting past shortcomings and steering the state toward purposeful and impactful leadership.

“As we enter this year, let us do so with optimism and hope, trusting God that 2026 will be better than the previous year in all ramifications,” he told the congregation.

According to him, “Many times, we only hear about attacks, but we hardly speak about God’s mercies in preventing attacks. There were plans to ruin the Christmas celebrations, but God intervened.”

The governor acknowledged recent incidents of insecurity in Buhum, Chugwi community of Vwang District, Bong village in Doemak District, Fan District of Jos South, as well as parts of Qua’an Pan and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas.

He expressed regret over the loss of lives and destruction of property, describing the attacks as painful setbacks.

He extended condolences to bereaved families, traditional rulers, and affected communities, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security agencies.

The governor said the government was intensifying efforts to end the cycle of violence and restore lasting peace across Plateau.

“Indeed, if the Lord does not watch over a city, the watchman watches in vain. God has been watching over Plateau State, and my prayer is that He will grant us enduring peace, such that the failures of last year will not be repeated,” he said.
