Senator Gilbert Emeka Nnaji Quits PDP, Pitches Tent With ADC.
Former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, Senator (Prince) Gilbert Emeka Nnaji, has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after 27 years of membership and has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a resignation letter dated 26 December 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Umuenwen Ward, Iji Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, the senator described the decision as difficult but necessary.
Senator Nnaji said the PDP, once founded on democratic ideals such as unity, justice, transparency, and patriotism, has become “irredeemable,” making his continued membership untenable despite his years of loyalty and contributions to the party.
He explained that after wide consultations, he resolved to seek a new political platform that aligns with his commitment to national development and the pursuit of a Nigeria that works for Nigerians.
The former lawmaker announced his decision to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as a credible and promising platform to continue his service to the nation.
Political analysts say the defection is a notable development in Enugu State’s political landscape, given Senator Nnaji’s long-standing influence and experience within the PDP and the National Assembly.
His entry into the ADC is expected to strengthen the party’s presence in the South-East, as it continues to attract politicians seeking alternatives outside Nigeria’s dominant parties.
The PDP is yet to officially respond to the resignation, while observers anticipate further political realignments in the state in the coming weeks.
