Fubara Commiserates With Bayelsa Gov
Blessing Ibunge in Port Harcourt
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has commiserated with the people of Bayelsa State over the sudden death of their deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Fubara described the late Senator Ewhrudjakpo, as a man of exceptional calibre whose public service was defined by intellectual depth, humility and uncommon dedication.
Fubara stated this when he led leaders from Rivers State on a condolence visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, following Ewhrudjakpo’s sudden death on December 11.
The governor arrived in Yenagoa dressed in black native attire with a matching cap, symbolising mourning.
Fubara described the passing of the deputy governor as a monumental loss, not only to Bayelsa but also to Rivers, noting that both states share deep historical, cultural and political ties.
He said the loss had personally touched him, stressing that death remained an event beyond human control and was determined only by God, who gave and took life.
Fubara assured the Bayelsa State Government of Rivers State’s readiness to support funeral arrangements for the late deputy governor.
“Wherever you want us to come in, I want to assure you that we will give our support. We know that there is no word of condolence that can fill the void, but only God can comfort you,” Fubara said.
He also assured the Ewhrudjakpo family of his government’s continued support during the period of grief and beyond.
Responding, Diri commended Fubara for his show of empathy and solidarity, particularly for leading a high-powered Rivers State delegation to condole with him and the people of Bayelsa over the painful loss.
Diri said he was still in shock over the death of his deputy but had surrendered to the will of God, noting that only the Almighty gives and takes life.
Both governors later visited the widow of the late deputy governor, Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, at the official residence to personally commiserate with the family.
