The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has elected Mrs. Valerie Ifueko Agberagba as the Deputy President of the society becoming the second woman to occupy the highly esteemed position in its history.
Her election was announced by the Chairman of the 2025 NSE Election Committee, Kashim Ali, following the society’s annual general meeting and national conference held recently in Ibadan.
Agberagba, a former President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) and a former Vice-President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), won by a landslide with over 3,000 votes. The runner-up polled about 1,944 votes.
With this victory, she will serve alongside the incoming NSE President, Ali Rabiu, helping to steer the affairs of the society for the next two years, after which she is expected to assume the presidency.
In her message of appreciation, Agberagba expressed delight about the overwhelming support from members.
She noted that the outcome was a reflection of the collective vision of engineers committed to strengthening the profession and preparing the NSE for future challenges.
“This victory is not mine alone, it is a collective achievement made possible by your trust, your encouragement, and your belief in our shared vision for a stronger, more innovative, and more impactful NSE,” she stated.
She pledged to focus on advancing professionalism within the society, enhancing institutional structures, and increasing the influence of engineering in national development.
“In this election, there is neither winner nor loser; we remain partners in progress, and we shall continue to work together in unity and purpose,” she added.
Her election has continued to attract commendations from stakeholders across the engineering community, particularly those who see her emergence as another milestone for gender representation in the profession.
