Adetomiwa Dosunmu Wins NITA Award for Most Innovative Cybersecurity Engineering Professional of the Year
By Tolulope Oke
In an era defined by accelerating cyber threats and the relentless sophistication of criminal attack infrastructure, the professionals who stand between organisational stability and catastrophic digital compromise are among the most consequential figures in modern enterprise. Adetomiwa Dosunmu is one such figure. A Nigerian-born Systems Security Engineer at Experian, one of the world’s largest data analytics and consumer reporting organisations, Dosunmu has been conferred with the Nigeria Information Technology Award for Most Innovative Cybersecurity Engineering Professional of the Year 2025, a distinction that reflects both the exceptional quality of his technical contributions and the growing stature of Nigerian professionals within the upper echelons of the global cybersecurity industry.
The NITA Award, which recognises individuals who have demonstrated measurable and transformational impact within the information technology sector, could scarcely have found a more deserving recipient. Dosunmu began his professional journey as a Junior Security Analyst at Adbirt Nigeria in Lagos, establishing foundational competencies in vulnerability assessment, risk analysis, firewall architecture, and data protection framework development. He subsequently served as an Incident Response Analyst with the Lagos State Government, directing cross-functional teams in the forensic investigation and containment of security incidents across critical public sector infrastructure. Both roles demanded operational precision under high-stakes conditions and produced a practitioner of rare technical depth and professional composure.
His academic formation took place at Central Michigan University, where he earned a Master of Science in Information Systems. Concurrently, he served as a Security Operations Center Analyst at the institution, monitoring enterprise-grade security platforms, investigating phishing threats, and contributing to university-wide security awareness design. His certifications encompass MITRE ATT&CK Fundamentals, SafeBreach Certified Operator qualification, Tines Core Certification in security automation and SOAR engineering, and IBM-conferred credentials in cybersecurity compliance frameworks and system administration.
At Experian, where he has served since 2023, Dosunmu has produced a body of work that is measurable, strategic, and consequential at enterprise scale. As a Systems Security Engineer, he leads threat-informed defense engineering across Experian’s global regions, profiling over 20 adversary groups targeting the financial sector and translating that intelligence into bespoke attack simulations on the SafeBreach platform. Within six months of driving remediation efforts, he achieved a 40 percent reduction in high-risk security gaps. He deployed a Threat Deception Grid that neutralised over 200 potential security breaches, compressed incident response timelines from hours to minutes through automation, and engineered 20 additional custom detections after confirming that 63 percent of a major threat group’s techniques were already intercepted by existing controls. He has further delivered a 20 percent reduction in SIEM false positives and measurable improvements in overall operational security efficiency across the organisation.
The announcement of his NITA Award prompted widespread congratulations across the cybersecurity community, and Dosunmu himself spoke with striking candour about the profound joy the recognition has stirred in him. “I am genuinely and deeply happy,” he said. “When I heard the news, there was a moment of stillness before anything else arrived, because my mind went immediately to where I started. I thought of Lagos. I thought of the long hours and demanding assignments that shaped me into the professional I am today. This happiness I feel is rooted entirely in gratitude, because I know exactly what this journey cost and what this recognition truly means.”
He spoke with equal clarity about the connection between the award and the professional philosophy that has guided his entire career. “Every decision I made was deliberate and considered,” he said. “I chose challenge over convenience at every stage, from Lagos State Government to Central Michigan University to Experian. I invested in mastery rather than appearances and gave my full commitment to every assignment I undertook. This NITA Award is the result of that investment compounding over many years, and receiving it fills me with a happiness and a sense of validation that I will carry for the rest of my professional life.”
Dosunmu was equally forthright about what the recognition represents for Nigeria’s broader technology community. “We are producing world-class cybersecurity professionals in this country,” he said. “I want this moment to stand as evidence for every young Nigerian in technology that when we commit to global standards without compromise, the world acknowledges us and honours our contributions. That message matters to me far more than any individual title ever could.”
Adetomiwa Dosunmu’s NITA Award is a landmark in the continuing narrative of Nigerian excellence in global technology and digital defence. It is a recognition built on years of disciplined, consequential work across two continents and multiple high-stakes professional environments. For an industry in which the consequences of failure are measured in stolen data, compromised systems, and eroded institutional trust, Dosunmu has consistently been the professional who prevents those outcomes. This award is well earned, and by every meaningful measure, it is only the beginning.
