Teal Tree Launches SafeWorkSpaces Campaign Nationwide

The Teal Tree Company, a women-led African social impact firm advancing gender equity and workplace culture transformation is set to launch the SafeWorkSpaces on Tuesday, 25th November.

This is a nationwide campaign promoting safety, dignity and respect for women and girls — both online and offline — during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Across Africa, the rise of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) and persistent workplace harassment continues to undermine women’s participation, safety and economic mobility.

According to the UN, nearly one in three women will experience violence in their lifetime, and digital harassment disproportionately affects young women, with workplace spillover now documented as a growing organisational risk.

“Gender-based violence is not only a human rights issue — it is an organisational risk that erodes trust, suppresses innovation and compromises economic growth.”

“Safe workplaces are productive workplaces. When we protect people, we unlock their full potential,” said Ibukun Omololu, Principal Consultant at The Teal Tree Company.

To address these gaps, Teal Tree is launching two flagship resources: The Corporate Safety & Respect Toolkit which is a practical guide for employers to strengthen systems, reporting cultures, leadership accountability and digital safety practices in the workplace. The toolkit equips organisations with actionable steps to prevent, identify and address gender-based violence and harassment, including physical and technology-facilitated forms.

The campaign will also feature a 2nd resource for girls, SafeMe: A Girl’s Guide to Staying Safe and Strong which is a youth-focused resource that helps girls aged 13 to 18 build confidence, set boundaries, understand online risks, recognise unhealthy behaviours and seek help safely. The guide promotes digital literacy, peer solidarity and early leadership among girls.

Over the 16 Days of Activism, the SafeWorkSpaces campaign will feature, Employer-focused webinar, Storytelling sessions, Youth safety conversations, LinkedIn Live dialogues with corporate leaders and Pan-African community engagement through partner organisations.

With five years of organisational impact and over 18 years of professional leadership advancing gender equity, safe workplace culture, and social inclusion across Africa, Teal Tree is leveraging collective action to drive systemic change.

The 2025 campaign is delivered in partnership with leading organisations including Mirabel Centre, Project Lead, Tech4Dev, Anne-Ruth Marie, Stand to End Rape (STER), and others working to advance safety, survivor support, and youth empowerment.

“Creating safe spaces is a shared responsibility,” Omololu added. “Through strong partnerships, evidence-based tools, and consistent leadership action, we can build workplaces and digital environments where women and girls are safe, respected, and able to thrive.”

The Teal Tree invites corporate organisations to adopt the Corporate Safety & Respect Toolkit and youth-focused groups to deploy the SafeMe resource with girls.

They also welcome individual allies to amplify the campaign online using #SafeWorkSpaces and #SafeMe and encourage partners to collaborate on year-round safety initiatives.
