The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called for renewed collaboration among senior military officers, both serving and retired, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and sustain national unity.

Speaking during a visit by members of the 41 Regular Combatant Course Alumni Association of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, Lt Gen Shaibu underscored the importance of collective experience and shared responsibility in addressing evolving security challenges.

He noted that the reunion was more than a nostalgic gathering of former colleagues — it symbolised a renewed commitment to nation-building through partnership, mentorship, and professional solidarity.

“Your support, experience and strategic insight are invaluable to our mission. You are my eyes and ears across the nation,” the Army Chief said, urging his coursemates to continue contributing their expertise towards a safer, stronger Nigeria.

Lt Gen Shaibu described members of the 41 Regular Combatant Course as a formidable generation of officers whose leadership legacy continues to influence the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He expressed appreciation for their consistent encouragement since his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff, affirming that their shared history at the NDA remains a unifying force that continues to inspire excellence in service.

Earlier, the President of the Alumni Association, Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd), congratulated Lt Gen Shaibu on his appointment, describing it as a moment of collective pride for the 41 Regular Combatant Course.

He noted that the group represents the first post-jubilee generation of the NDA — a cadre of officers known for discipline, innovation and exceptional service delivery.

Anyanya lauded the COAS for his distinguished record and leadership qualities, recalling his role as Academy Cadet Adjutant over three decades ago. “We have always known him as a leader who combines intellect, integrity and humility, traits that continue to define his command,” he said.

The retired officer also extended the association’s goodwill to Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, National President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), commending her support for military families and her contribution to the welfare initiatives of the Nigerian Army.

Lt Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, in a statement after the visit, said the event reflected the Army Chief’s inclusive approach to leadership, one that recognises the value of institutional memory, shared experience, and partnership in the ongoing drive to secure the nation.
