Ebonny Musik: Taking Afro-Urban Sound from Lagos to London

Ebenezer Olaolu Mabinuori known with the stage name, Ebonny Musik is one of the rising voices shaping the new sound of African music.

The Nigerian-born, UK-based singer and songwriter is building a strong reputation for his unique blend of Afrobeat, R&B, and pop — a sound he proudly calls Afro-Urban.

For him, it’s more than just music; it’s a reflection of his journey, his culture, and his identity.

Growing up in Nigeria, Ebonny Musik was surrounded by music that carried rhythm, message, and emotion. From the bold and energetic sounds of Fela Kuti, to the smooth highlife melodies of King Sunny Ade, and the soulful storytelling of 2Baba, he learned that good music touches both the heart and the mind. Those early influences built his foundation as an artist who values both melody and meaning.

But everything changed when he moved to the United Kingdom. There, he discovered a whole new world of sounds — from R&B and hip-hop to dancehall and pop. London’s vibrant, multicultural music scene inspired him to blend his African roots with global sounds.

That’s how Afro-Urban was born — a sound that brings the rhythm of Africa together with the modern beats of the city.

“Afro-Urban is where my African roots meet my European experience,” he says. “It’s rhythm meeting melody, culture meeting modern life. It’s who I am in music form.”

Ebonny’s latest project, Unstoppable EP, captures his journey as an artist. It tells stories of love, struggle, hope, and ambition — experiences that many young Africans can relate to.

Working with British-Nigerian producer Christian Jude (Tunde Olukoga), he spent long nights creating songs that blend African percussion with international pop and R&B rhythms.

Ebonny Musik’s story is one of growth, faith, and creativity. From Lagos to London, he has used his voice to create a bridge between continents. His Afro-Urban sound celebrates who he is — a proud African artist with a global outlook.
