Adeshina Lasisi: I Build Fintech Solutions That Touch Lives, Simplify Access, And Drive Financial Inclusion

In Africa’s fast-growing fintech and capital markets, one name continues to stand out for blending technical excellence with visionary leadership: Adeshina Lasisi. A brilliant software engineer, Lasisi has built a career around designing secure, scalable, and user-friendly financial systems that are transforming how millions of people and businesses transact daily.

His journey into leadership started early at university, where he served as Software Director of the National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS). There, he mentored peers and organized workshops, building strong foundations for aspiring engineers. “That experience shaped me,” Lasisi reflects. “It taught me that leadership is about empowering others, fostering collaboration, and creating environments where ideas thrive.”

From the start of his professional career, Lasisi has consistently led projects that bridge innovation and financial inclusion. At WayaPay (WAYA Multi-links), he architected a robust payment gateway platform that supported USSD, card payments, wallet payments, direct bank debit payments, and even payments via phone numbers linked to banks. This system processed millions of transactions and improved access to real-time payments for diverse users, reinforcing his belief in scalable, user-centric financial systems.

His impact deepened at Africa Prudential, where he played a pivotal role in creating Greenpole V2, an enterprise-grade solution that caters to the data management and end-to-end operations of registrars.

This system powers critical transactions across equities, bonds, and mutual funds, enabling registrars to manage shareholder records, process corporate actions, and deliver reporting at scale. Built for precision and resilience, Greenpole continues to handle billions in transactions monthly and has set new benchmarks for reliability in Africa’s capital markets. Critically, after Greenpole V2 went live, it contributed heavily to Africa Prudential’s gross revenue, while also enabling new financial products and operational efficiencies.

“The biggest lesson from Greenpole V2 was precision,” Lasisi recalls. “In finance, even the smallest error can be catastrophic, so systems must be accurate, secure, and resilient.”

At Nomba, a payment powerhouse in Africa’s fintech landscape, Adeshina has led the backend development and architecture of flagship products including the Nomba Multi-currency Card, multi-account banking features, and the revolutionary Nomba QR Payment Solution. Designed as a versatile platform, Nomba QR combines QR cards, static QRs, and dynamic QRs to give merchants and customers multiple ways to transact. What makes this innovation exceptional is its direct integration with Nomba customers’ accounts, enabling users to recover payments, deposit, withdraw, and authorize transactions before any debit occurs. This design ensures users maintain full control over their funds while enjoying a seamless payment experience, reinforced by advanced security features that safeguard transactions against fraud and guarantee traceability.

At its first launch, the Nomba QR Payment Solution received widespread adoption within just months, quickly becoming a preferred payment method across the ecosystem. It is also deeply integrated into Nomba Checkout, allowing customers to process payments with QR both online and in-store. Platforms such as Bumpa, which leverages Nomba Checkout, have further extended its reach in e-commerce and retail. To scale adoption, Nomba introduced the Nomba QR Agent initiative, which empowers agents to onboard customers, assign QR cards, and link them to digital Nomba bank accounts stored on the card. This innovation has inspired real-world applications such as Wecyclers, where QR-linked accounts support recycling incentives and community engagement.

The Nomba QR Payment Solution has also become a vital enabler for unbanked individuals across Nigeria and beyond, giving them access to digital accounts and seamless financial services. Today, it powers over 2 million active QRs and processes millions of dollars in monthly payments, with many customers and agents now preferring QR transactions to debit cards.

The backend is built on microservices, load balancing, and fault-tolerant transaction queues, ensuring real-time settlements, high availability, and multi-currency support at scale. By reducing reliance on cash and accelerating digital adoption, the Nomba QR Payment Solution has redefined payments in Nigeria’s fintech ecosystem while also driving new regional expansion opportunities for Nomba.

In addition, Adeshina architected and built the Nomba Card, a multi-currency card designed for both business and personal use. This brand-new product has further accelerated Nomba’s growth, giving businesses and individuals seamless flexibility in cross-border and local transactions, and solidifying Nomba’s position as a leader in Africa’s payment innovation.

Beyond coding, Lasisi integrates user feedback deeply into product development. An example is onboarding, where he worked closely with frontend teams to make the process more seamless after listening to customer challenges. This combination of technical depth and empathy for users ensures Nomba’s products not only function reliably but also deliver intuitive, meaningful experiences.

For Adeshina, innovation cannot come at the cost of trust. Every feature he develops undergoes rigorous end-to-end testing, stress simulations, and controlled rollouts before being released. “User trust is the foundation of fintech,” he emphasizes. “Without reliability and security, no innovation can stand.”
Mentorship has remained central to Lasisi’s philosophy, from NACOSS to his professional roles. He believes in building high-performing teams by fostering collaboration, clarity, and accountability. Leading by example, he ensures team members not only deliver but also grow into stronger engineers and leaders themselves.

Adeshina’s work has drawn attention across Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. He has been featured by leading media outlets and recognized by industry leaders, CEOs, and CTOs for his significant contributions as an expert in his field. On OGTV (Ogun State Television), he has been featured multiple times, most notably in the Youth in Tech interview, where he was recognized for his thought leadership while speaking about the power of youth in technology, the impact of artificial intelligence, advancements in financial technology, the role of technology in education and examinations, and how government can harness innovation to advance the state, cultivate a pool of talented engineers, drive economic growth, and position the state as a leading hub for technological innovation.

He also shared on the show his journey as a software engineer and presented a practical template that others can follow to successfully transition into technology, inspiring the next generation of innovators and demonstrating how technology can transform lives and shape the future of financial innovation.
Looking ahead, Lasisi sees AI, blockchain, and open banking as game changers for Africa’s financial future. He believes these technologies will strengthen fraud detection, increase transparency, and expand access. But he is quick to stress that for these trends to succeed, they must be built on scalable, secure systems.

For Adeshina Lasisi, success is measured not just in revenues or transaction volumes but in impact. Whether enabling a market trader to accept seamless payments, helping a small business access banking tools, or empowering investors through capital market platforms, his mission remains clear: build solutions that touch lives.

“True success is knowing the products I build solve meaningful problems and open opportunities for people,” he says. “That’s what keeps me going.”
From his early days at NACOSS to shaping billion-dollar fintech ecosystems today, Adeshina Lasisi has remained consistent: an engineer, a leader, and above all, a builder of systems that redefine what’s possible in Africa’s financial landscape.

His contributions have earned him significant recognition, including being named the Most Enterprising Software Development Professional of the Year (2025) by the Nigeria Technology Awards, and receiving a 2025 Global Recognition Award for Exceptional Contributions to Fintech Innovation and Leadership, a testament to the impact he is making on the financial markets and fintech space.

He achieved this distinction in 2025, when he was screened, judged, and voted as a winner at the 11th Edition of the Nigeria Technology Awards (NiTA) following a transparent process with clearly defined selection and voting criteria.

He stood out among some of the most notable contenders in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. Previous recipients include leading corporate firms such as INFINIX (smartphone manufacturer), CWG PLC (core banking solutions & IT services), and VATEBRA LIMITED (ICT & software solutions), as well as prominent government bodies including FRSC (Federal Road Safety Corps) and FIRS (Federal Inland Revenue Service), highlighting the prestige and significance of this recognition.

This achievement further underscores Adeshina’s innovation, leadership, and lasting influence as a leading figure shaping the future of fintech and capital markets in Africa.
